SURVIVAL TO SACRED:

Somatic integration of Trauma &

its Shadow Without the Bypass

There are days that we feel exhausted from our habitual ways of performing; disconnected from our bodies, overthinking and overdoing to cope, overriding our gut feelings in relationships, and using all of the positivity or spiritual jargon that we can muster, as opposed to dropping deeply into the wisdom within our own bodies.

What would it be like to slow down, feel and welcome what is underneath these exhausting coping strategies? Instead, they often have us spinning our own mental wheels, and consistently ending up in the same places that we began: tired, hurt, feeling shameful, and cut off from ourselves and others.

6-Month Somatic Training | Live Online | Community Forum

Starts Tuesday, January 20th from 7-9pm EST (Following Tuesday dates below)

The Struggle

When we’ve done a ton of our own pyscho-spiritual work, why do we still catch ourselves exhibiting the same behaviours when things get hard, that rarely get us anywhere, instead of moving towards our own bodies and pain?

Maybe you’ve meditated for years, done all the body-mind practices in the world, self-reflected endlessly, read countless self-help books, done years of therapy, and attended numerous workshops on cultivating your own inner well-being.

But still, there is a niggling feeling that you are missing something. This might look like:

❌ Overthinking instead of feeling — analyzing your trauma and related patterns endlessly but it still loops through your mind
❌ Spiritually bypassing — using “love and light” or high spiritual concepts to avoid feeling anger, grief, or meeting your own shadow
❌ Perfecting and overdoing — achieving to prove your worth, and staying busy to avoid feeling inadequate
❌ People-pleasing and shape-shifting — overriding your boundaries to avoid being rejected
❌ Forcing positivity — toxic “bright-side” thinking that silences yours and other’s inner emotional pain
❌ Staying in your head — consistently disconnecting from your bodily sensations and trying to think your way out of situations
❌ Performing and masking — exhausted from being who you think you should be
❌ Escaping through distraction — numbing, dissociating, avoiding what’s living in your tissues by mentally leaving life

While we may understand intellectually what traumatic events happened to us in the past, we often repress, disconnect or dissociate from the discomfort or darkness that comes with them.

The problem is that we can’t think, transcend, achieve, or please our way into embodied presence.

The traumas and psychic wounds that we haven’t integrated hold us hostage through nervous system dysregulation, postural, mental, emotional, behavioural imbalances, and bypassing strategies that, however sophisticated, still keep us stuck.

The Shift

Every bypass strategy — from spiritual bypassing to overthinking intellectually, to the overdoing perfectionist, and relational overriding — was developed to protect you from overwhelm. Yet they also ultimately stop you from integrating old, underlying traumatic imprinting and the shame that can come alongside it, and from feeling more authentically alive.

Sustainable healing requires:

✓ Feeling instead of thinking — moving from analysis to embodied experience
✓ Including instead of transcending — shadow AND light, human AND sacred, body AND mind/spirit
✓ Being instead of doing — worth that isn’t earned through achievement
✓ Authenticity instead of performing — dropping the masks and people-pleasing
✓ Full emotional range instead of forced positivity — anger, grief, joy, all of it
✓ Presence instead of escape — staying with what is, in your body, now
✓ Integration instead of bypass — weaving ALL parts into wholeness

This is somatic shadow and unmasking work. Trauma integration and healing at its best, and it changes us deeply.

What You’ll Learn

MODULE 1: AWARENESS ~ Jan 20 & Feb 3

Foundations of Shadow, Soma & the False Self

  • How to recognize your bypass patterns: intellectual, spiritual, perfectionist, people-pleasing, positivity, dissociative, and more
  • Somatic Experiencing fundamentals: building safe capacity to feel instead of escape through pendulation, titration, and tracking
  • Understanding shadow, masks, and how they live as tension, armor, and holding patterns in your body
  • Working with shame and the inner critic through embodied self-compassion practices (not just positive thinking)

Embodied practices: Body scanning, resourcing meditation, grounding techniques, self-compassion with touch

MODULE 2: AUTHENTICITY ~ Feb 17 & March 3

Unmasking the True Self – Body, Shame & Belonging

  • The exhaustion of performing, perfecting, and people-pleasing, and how to drop the mask
  • How cultural conditioning created your masks and the somatic cost of constant performance
  • Listening to your body’s authentic “yes” and “no” instead of overriding boundaries and needs
  • Radical acceptance of your full humanity (including imperfection) and discovering Self-energy beneath the armor

Embodied practices: RAIN meditation, Authentic Movement, parts dialogue, vocal authenticity exercises

MODULE 3: COMPASSION ~ March 17 & April 7

Spiritual Bypassing & the Path of Embodied Presence

  • Deep dive into spiritual bypassing: “love and light,” premature forgiveness, toxic positivity, emotional numbing disguised as peace
  • Reclaiming anger and boundaries — moving beyond the “nice” mask that keeps you from authentic connection
  • Allowing grief and the full emotional range without forcing gratitude or transcendence
  • Understanding fierce compassion that includes truth and boundaries, not just accommodation and bypass

Embodied practices: Emotional expression work, parts meditation, boundary setting in the body, presence practices

MODULE 4: EMBODIED PRESENCE ~ April 21 & May 5

Trauma, Nervous System & Somatic Integration

  • Why presence is the antidote to all forms of bypass, and how nervous system regulation makes it possible
  • Understanding your window of tolerance and activation states: moving from fight/flight/freeze to embodied presence
  • Working with trauma through titration and pendulation without forcing catharsis or staying intellectually distant
  • Completing defensive responses and allowing natural discharge without dissociating or rushing the process

Embodied practices: Orienting, grounding, pendulation exercises, vagal toning, gentle movement for discharge

MODULE 5: WHOLENESS & ALIVENESS ~ May 19 & June 2

Post-Traumatic Growth & Sacred Transformation

  • Five domains of post-traumatic growth: transforming through adversity without toxic positivity or spiritual bypass
  • The body’s role in authentic transformation and embodying spirituality without transcending your humanity
  • Moving from overdoing and martyrdom in service to sustainable purpose, grounded in your wholeness
  • Inviting spiritual presence and grace while staying connected to reality and your full emotional experience

Embodied practices: Attunement practices, gratitude embodied, self-led meditation, strength-building, nature connection

MODULE 6: RESILIENCE ~ June 16 & 30

Weaving It All Together Sustainably – Practice & Mastery

  • Building resilience through your unique integrative approach that honors body, psyche, and spirit without bypass
  • Working skillfully with resistance (yours and others’) as a form of nervous system protection, and recognizing when defenses need respect, not force, to build lasting resilience
  • Ethical considerations: maintaining boundaries, navigating power dynamics, cultural humility, and avoiding spiritual appropriation or bypass in service
  • Practitioner resilience: preventing burnout, managing vicarious trauma, and recognizing your own bypass patterns that undermine sustainability in helping roles

Embodied practices: Personal resilience practice design, nervous system capacity building, parts check-in, peer practice, ongoing integration

Shadow, Parts, and Presence:

An Embodied Approach to Trauma Integration

For more than 20 years, Carrie Prince, MSW, has walked alongside people as they return to themselves through trauma-informed counseling and embodied practices. In this class, she guides you to explore the intersection of personal and collective shadow.

Through authenticity and  curiosity, an unwinding emerges. Spirit begins to reveal what is both astonishing and deeply familiar. Carrie draws from her training in SE, IFS, Hakomi, Brainspotting, TRE, core shamanism, and MBSR.

Her professional background is in mental health counseling, college level teaching, healing circle facilitation, naturopathy, energy work, and many years of teaching meditation and yoga.

Reclaiming the Embodied Self:

A Somatic Journey Through Yoga

Tina Nance, E-RYT 500, Yoga Teacher Trainer, has been guiding people worldwide to reconnect with their body-mind and Spirit through embodied practices for over 30 years. In this work, she creates space for the unraveling of holding patterns that no longer serve. Through heart-centered presence and somatic listening, a deep integration emerges. The body begins to remember what the mind has forgotten.

Tina draws from her extensive training in Somatic Experiencing, IFS, Trauma-Informed Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Nervous System Regulation, alongside her foundations in Yin Yoga, Yoga Therapy, and Embodied Mindfulness.

Her professional background includes founding HELD: School of Embodied Self Integration, long-term teaching and training at The Yoga Barn in Bali, and developing Nervous System Rewire and Embodied Unwinding practices. She holds diplomas in Kinesiology, Shiatsu, Remedial Massage Therapy, Health Sciences, and Vibrational Medicine.

FAQ Section

Yes. Module 1 briefly shares the SE fundamentals that you will need. We also pace the material carefully, and I will share additional video content to people who are new to somatic work. That said, if you’ve never tracked sensations in your body before, be prepared, this will be new territory! There will be added practices and support in the FB group.

I don’t use spiritual language that requires specific beliefs. When I say “sacred” or “spiritual,” I mean connection to something larger than ego, whether you call that Self, soul, nature, interconnection, or nothing at all. The practices are grounded in neuroscience and somatic psychology. If you’re secular and want body-based trauma work, and are open to connection with something larger than yourself, you’ll find what you need here.

Deep work can activate material. That’s different from being triggered or re-traumatized. We work carefully with resources, and staying within your window of tolerance. You’re always in control of how deep you go. That said, if you have a therapist, I recommend staying connected with them during this training or reach out to me for SE sessions throughout the course duration.

All sessions are recorded and available within 24 hours. However, the live experiential component is valuable, you’ll want to attend live when possible. If you know you’ll miss more than 2 sessions, consider waiting for the next cohort in 2027.

If following Module 1 you aren’t satisfied that this course is for you, write me within 7 days and I will return your money to you!
